NetZero Milan comes to life with the launch of the teaser events. From November to April, monthly webinars will accompany the community of the NetZero makers up to the event, realised with the scientific supervision of publishers and stakeholders from the energy sector and important industrial sectors.
At the centre of the program will be the road to the achievement of decarbonisation targets and the competitiveness of all industries called upon to achieve them. These themes and challenges will converge at NetZero Milan next May.
Register to the NetZero Makers platform to participate to the webinars and become part of the #NetZeroMakers community, with an exclusive content programme for you.

An electricity mix increasingly based on renewables requires a flexible system: the need for storage will be directly proportional to the increasing share of wind and photovoltaics.
In 2024, a worldwide increase in electrochemical storage is estimated at 76% over 2023. But already by 2035, Bloomberg predicts that the global storage market will be ten times larger.
This year will see the first competitive auction of the new instrument, the MACSE (Electric Storage Capacity Supply Mechanism). It will incentivise 9 GW/71 GWh of storage capacity for 10 years and can make our electricity system more dynamic and responsive to market needs, including the installation of batteries where they are most needed, avoiding grid bottlenecks and ‘price cannibalisation’.
There is also great interest in introducing electrochemical storage in the commercial-industrial (C&I) segment, especially after the downturn in the residential market. The C&I segment of storage is still marginal, but also has potential due to the possible volatility of electricity prices, which companies are now looking at with concern.
The webinar will present an overview of the market from the perspective of manufacturers and operators, with some concrete application cases, a focus on past, present and future support mechanisms, technologies and their evolution in terms of capacity and costs.

Giovanni Bassi – Head of Sales A2A E-Mobility
Federico Pessah – SENEC Project Engineer
Michel Cipullo – Go To Market Manager of Targa Telematics
The webinar will delve into the electrification of company fleets, analysing its benefits for industry and the environment. According to Transport & Environment, the electrification of corporate fleets could lead to a demand for more than 2 million electric vehicles by 2030, contributing to the reduction of CO₂ emissions.

For some of the so-called ‘hard to abate’ industries, direct electrification appears difficult to implement and not always effective. In these cases, hydrogen seems to be the only solution to reduce the environmental impact of production activities in sectors such as steel, ceramics, chemicals, and glass.
During the webinar, these topics will be addressed from different perspectives: the discussion will start with an overview of the regulatory framework and incentives, followed by an examination of some of the main projects currently being implemented in Italy, with the aim of highlighting the potential of hydrogen as an energy carrier, as well as the challenges that need to be overcome to facilitate its adoption in the industrial sector.

The steel industry is estimated to be responsible for 5% of CO2 emissions in Europe and 7% worldwide, which is why decarbonisation of the steelmaking process is central to policies in Europe and beyond. The webinar will address the challenges that the steel industry is facing, in Italy, in Europe and worldwide. Particular attention will be given to the topic of existing technologies, ongoing investments and current legislation in Europe (e.g. CBAM). In closing, a research on the sustainability budgets of the Italian steel industry carried out in the two-year period 2023-2024 will be presented.

Federico Macioci, senior consultant Key to Energy – PPAs and the electricity market
Giuseppe Pastorino, President of Aicep – The energy demand of industries and the possible answers of PPAs
Stefano Cavriani, director, Ego Group – PPAs in action: practical cases and perspectives
Francesca Manso, Managing Director, BayWa r.e. Power Solutions Srl – Corporate PPA: innovative model for renewable energy growth
Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) are a key instrument for industries: they allow them to reduce their environmental footprint and to procure energy at stable prices.
PPA also guarantees a supply that is very competitive with market prices.
Furthermore, as third-party investment models, PPAs allow the corporate customer to have energy from renewables without impacting the balance sheet and without dedicating resources to the operation of the plant.
However, these are complex configurations: contracts that mitigate any risks to which both parties may be exposed are essential.
The PPA market, although no longer young, is also evolving: the trend today is increasingly towards a ‘tailor-made’ approach, and many innovations are being seen, such as 24/7 PPAs, i.e. those that give the guarantee of using clean energy at all times of day. We will analyse the contractual aspects, the reference regulations and the economic benefits, also going through some examples of what has been done in some concrete cases.
